Hearst
Castle®
was once the private
estate of newspaper publisher and art collector William Randolph
Hearst. Today it is a
California
State Park,
State
Historical
Monument,
National Historic Landmark, and accredited Museum that is open for
public tours. With acres of gardens, fabulous art,
architecture, walkways, and pools, it is a must-see for any
California
Coast visitor.
The estate is filled with
thousands of works of fine and decorative art that Mr. Hearst
admired and collected. The main house, Casa Grande, is based in part
upon designs from a Renaissance Spanish cathedral, while the outdoor
pool features an ancient Roman temple facade.
And there’s much more -
Hearst Castle® was like a small self-contained city, with scores of
bedrooms, ornate bathrooms, impressive sitting rooms, 127 acres of
gardens, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a private
movie theater, airfield, and an incredible private zoo. Zebras and
other exotic animals still roam the grounds. All this located on a
beautiful hilltop in San Simeon overlooking the Pacific Ocean and
the surrounding
Santa
Lucia
Mountains.
Come experience this
master work by visiting year-round on one of our 5 tour options.
